20 Sept 2008-18 Jan 2009. On display is the entire collection of paintings and drawings by the German artist Caspar David Friedrich (1774-1840), loaned from the Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg. Landscape painter as well as most important representative of the German Romantic movement, Friedrich is best known for his later allegorical landscapes, which feature contemplative figures silhouetted against night skies, morning mists, barren trees, and Gothic ruins.
