22 March-7 June 2006. The 17th edition of the Festival de Guitarra de Barcelona is hosted by the Palau de la Msica and music clubs such as Bikini and Luz de Gas. Highlights include a solo concert by John Williams (27 May) and a concert by recent Grammy-winner Dianne Reeves (Goodnight and Good Luck) performing with Romero Lubambo and Russell Malone (11 May). Other international musicians featured are English guitar legend Alan Holdsworth with the Alan Pasqua Group (8 April), New York blues singer Shemekia Copeland (20 April), gypsy jazz guitarist Raphael Fays and his trio (22 April) and Omar Faruk Tekbilek from Turkey with special guest Armenian oud player Haig Yazdjian (31 May). Young guitar students from three Barcelona music schools perform a concert at Casal del Metge on 6 May. Admission 12-48. See website in Spanish and Catalan for concert times and venues.
