Ahlam Shibli: Phantom Home

25 Jan-28 April. The Phantom Home exhibition at MACBA is a retrospective of the work of the Palestinian Bedouin photographer Ahlam Shibli, (born 1970).

Based in the city of Haifa in northern Israel, Shibli is known for her photographs documenting the life of Bedouins of Palestinian descent in villages unrecognised by Israel.

The groups of photographs on display examine, in documentary fashion, the emotive and sometimes contradictory concepts of home, loss, death, repression, occupation, dispossession and resistance.

The works deal with, in particular, the hardships and conflict experienced in Palestinian territories, as well as such disparate themes as the rights of gay people in Oriental societies and the realities for children in Polish orphanages.

A series of parallel events including seminars and guided tours are also scheduled to take place.
