Continuing low levels in the Seine Normandie basin, which supplies Paris with water, have led the city council to confirm its summer water saving drive. Measures include limiting street washing to early morning only and restricting irrigation of public parks, sports grounds and gardens to the absolute minimum. Non-urgent cleaning of sewers and draining of public swimming pools has been postponed till autumn. The Ville de Paris is also running a campaign via its website and luminous display screens around the capital urging Parisians not to waste water.
