The twice-weekly collection of Pariss unmistakable yellow-lidded wheelie bins for recycling household waste is to be extended to the 4ieme, 9ieme, 15ieme and 18ieme arrondissements. Indicative of the success of the city councils recycling scheme, set up in 2002, the twice-weekly collections now cover a total of 11 arrondissements, and will be extended to include all Paris neighbourhoods by June 2006. The council collects cardboard boxes, cartons, newspapers, magazines, paper, exercise books and cardboard packing (folded neatly) in the yellow-lidded bins.

Households also have a white-lidded wheelie bin for glass bottles, jars etc and a green one for non-toxic household waste.
