Sharks in Vienna

Visitors to Vienna’s aquarium (Haus des Meeres) in Esterhazy park can now watch Caribbean hammer sharks, stingrays, and other exotic species in a new 150,000 litre tank at the top of the 50-m Flak building.

Other added attractions are a new café and events’ room with views over the city and as from October there will be guided tours of the 400,000 reptiles and the fish in the aquarium. Almost 500,000 people visited the site in 2012.

Feeding time for the sharks is on Wednesdays and Sundays at 15.00. On Thursdays at 18.00 and Sundays at 10.00 there is shark diving.

The Flak Tower that houses the aquarium is one of three old anti-aircraft towers erected in Vienna during world war two.
