A team of six rangers is already at work seven days a week patrolling Oxfords parks. A 150,000 project has been approved by the city council to provide a visible public presence in local parks. The rangers main duties include locking and un-locking gates, litter-picking and enforcing bylaws. If the scheme proves successful, rangers may be given powers to issue on-the-spot fines for littering or fouling the park. The parks initially covered by the scheme are South Park, Cutteslowe Park, Florence Park and Gillians Park at Blackbird Leys.
