Those Spaniards most likely to take care of their bodies by eating well and exercising are residents of Madrid, according to a recent survey by the Encuesta Nacional de Tendencias Alimenticias y de Cuidado Personal, carried out for internet site www.nutricion.pro.

The survey examined the diet and exercise habits of 1,890 Spaniards and found that those living in Madrid took an above average amount of exercise and were more likely to push themselves physically, followed by residents of Murcia and the Canaries.

Nationally, 92 per cent of those polled recognised the importance of even a small amount of exercise, while 43 per cent said that most of their efforts were directed towards being fit for the summer. The most popular form of exercise was walking.
