Jersey plans flood defences

The Channel Islands of Guernsey and Jersey have estimated that they need to spend over £120 million in flood defences

Guernsey has calculated that it should spend £55 million to protect its north coast and Jersey about £50 to defend its southern coast.

Jersey says that the work is not urgent, but a combination of high tides, strong winds and heavy rain that caused serious damage to the sea wall along the south of the island and in the town of St Helier in 2008 was a warning of what could happen again.
