Islanders applying for a passport after 2009 will have their fingerprints included on a chip in their biometric passports.

Jersey's immigration director John Noel says that within ten years, as people renew outdated or lost passports, Jersey passport-holders will have the information stored in such a way that immigration can check that they are who they say they are.
