Channel Islands to light Queen’s Jubilee beacons

Beacons will be lit in the Channel Islands on 4 June to celebrate the Queen’s 60 years on the throne. They will be among 4,000 lit throughout the world to mark the occasion.

In Jersey the beacon is sited at Elizabeth Castle, the southern-most point of the British Isles.

Lighting-up time will start in the UK at about 22.00. In Jersey a laser triggered from the old hillside fortifications on Fort Regent will light the fire at Elizabeth Castle across the main harbour at 22.21. The Queen will light a beacon in London at 22.30.

There will also be fires in Guernsey, Alderney, Sark and Herm, as well as the tiny Channel Islands of Brecqhou, Jethou and Lihou.
