The Constitutional Court has overturned an application from mobile phone operators Proximus, Base and Mobilstar to relax the strict GSM (Global System for Mobile communication) radiation limits currently in force in the Brussels region. A decree passed by the Brussels parliament in March 2007 stipulates a maximum radiation of 3 volts per metre from GSM antennas, much lower than the Belgian national limit of 20.6 volts per metre.

The mobile phone operators have also applied to increase the number of antennas in Brussels.
