Battersea

Although a residential area, it is not one of the most fascinating in London. Public transport also something of a problem. Surprisingly it is one of the few areas of the city that does not have an underground station and even the bus service into nearby Chelsea is slow and unreliable. However there is a main line station with trains to Victoria station. The housing consists mainly of well-built, two and three-storey Victoria buildings but many are converted into apartments. Here there is good quality private housing right next to high-rise council blocks. The trendy new developments along the Thames are now selling for huge sums but the surroundings are not up to the same standard as the new Norman Foster designs. The main attraction is the park, with a small zoo, a lake, a sports track, tennis courts and field circuit, and the old Battersea Power Station
