Dutch leave Netherlands in record numbers

In 2012 nearly 150,000 Dutch citizens emigrated from the Netherlands according to Statistics Netherlands. This compares with just over 130,000 in 2011 and 121,000 in 2010.

The reasons for the emigration were the economic situation, dissatisfaction with politics and growing social difficulties.

However the emigrants do not move far away. The main countries of destination are Germany, Belgium and England, followed by the Scandinavian countries.
