1 April-25 Sept. The famous Tivoli Gardens are the focus of summer-time entertainment in Copenhagen, as they have been ever since they opened in 1843. Set right in the heart of town, these beautiful gardens offer the visitor a whole host of things to do and see. There are clown shows, pantomime performances, live music from jazz to rock to classical, cabaret artists, discos, funfair rides and much more. To top it all off theres the recently installed roller coaster the fastest in Denmark, with a circuit nearly 600 metres long.

You can also find gastronomic delights to suit every palate, from hot-dogs to Danish haute cuisine. On Wednesdays and Saturdays, fireworks displays are held at the lake from around 23.45.

This month, as well as performances of Thumbelina and The Nightingale, two of Hans Christian Andersons classic tales, the Gardens are staging A Tivoli Fairytale, a spectacular show involving life-size puppets, pyrotechnics, music and special lighting effects to celebrate the bicentenary of Denmarks well-loved story-teller.

Details about the wealth of free live entertainment on offer is available on the Tivoli Gardens excellent website, which also has a journey planner. 11.00 23.00 (check closing times). Adults DKr68, children 3-11 yrs DKr35
