6 Dec 2006-1 Jan 2007. Het Nationale Ballet company performs the Dutch interpretation of the classic Nutcracker fairytale, setting the action in an Amsterdam canal house around 1810. Designed and choreographed by Wayne Eagling and Toer van Schayk (after Marius Petipa), this production boasts some spectacular technical feats including the transformation of the canal houses drawing room into a snow-covered wood. The ballet is based on Alexander Dumas version of E.T.A. Hoffmanns story "The Nutcracker and the King of Mice", which recounts a young girls dream that her toy Nutcracker Prince comes to life and does battle with a fierce Mouse King and his army of mice. Tchaikovskys score is performed by the Holland Symfonia conducted by Ermanno Florio. Admission 50-20 concessions 46-15. Performances start at 20.15 on 6, 9, 13, 14, 16, 20, 23, 29 & 30 Dec. Matinees at 14.00 on 9, 16, 17, 20, 23, 25, 30, 31 Dec & 1 Jan. Photo: Johan Vigeveno
