A new extension to the U2 subway linking the city centre and the 51,000-seater Ernst Happel Stadium is scheduled to open on 10 May. The line will cut travel time to the Viennese EURO 2008 hub to just eight minutes.

Featuring three tracks and two central platforms, the new Stadion station also has a special crowd filter system allowing only a limited number of people onto the platforms at any one time.

Hosted by Austria and Switzerland, the European football championship EURO 2008 takes place in Vienna, Innsbruck, Salzburg, Klagenfurt, Geneva, Zurich, Berne and Basel from 7-29 June, with the grand final played at the Ernst Happel Stadium.
