Seattle-based coffee giant Starbucks is to open its first store in the Amsterdam Central Station following a licensing agreement with Servex, the Dutch railways food and beverage concessionaire. Technically the multinational chain already has stores in Holland at Schiphol airport and inside its coffee roasting plant at the Port of Amsterdam. However, the opening of the Central Station Starbucks in spring 2009 will serve as a springboard for further expansion in railway stations throughout the Netherlands. Unlike in their Dutch counterparts, no smoking of any kind is allowed in Starbucks coffee shops.
