As of this autumn, five more Citybike stations are to be added to the Vienna-wide network of rent-free bicycles. New pick-up points are to be added near Schnbrunn castle and the Meidling train station. Described by the European Platform on Mobility Management (EPOMM) as the most modern bike-rent system in the world, the Citybike scheme features a one-hour time limit on free use after which a charge is levied. Statistics show that 97 per cent of cycle users hire their Citybike for less than an hour. Bike borrowers have to register with their bank card or with a special Citybike card. The service is operated by an advertising company, GEWISTA, with sponsorship from Nokia, One and the Raiffeisen Landesbank of Lower Austria in Vienna.
