Car thefts in Berlin rose sharply by 38.2 per cent in 2009 according to a report in daily Die Welt, says The Local online. Over 7,000 cars were stolen in Berlin in 2009, most frequently luxury brands such as Audi, BMW, Mercedes and Porsche. Berlin also saw a marginal increase in the total number of crimes committed in the city in 2009, up by less than one per cent on 2008.
