Clontarf-based aviation company JetBird is set to change the face of European business air travel with its new fleet of Embraer Phenom 100s, a new type of Very Light Jet (VLJ) built in Brazil. Offering a low-cost jet-taxi service between the main European financial centres, JetBird will operate using a Ryanair-style internet booking system. The twin-engined Phenoms can carry four passengers for distances up to 2,148 km, and the company has ordered 56, with plans to expand the fleet to 100 units by 2013. Delivery of the first plane is scheduled for April and JetBird will be taking to the skies this summer.
