Jersey telecoms monopoly to end

Jersey and Guernsey landline users will soon be able to shop around for the best provider for their house phone service. This means that they will also have a choice of bundles that include not just the house phone but also mobiles, broadband and television services.

British Telecom, Sky and Talk Talk will be allowed into the market, probably from the autumn onwards. Until now Jersey Telecoms has had the monopoly on house phone services in Jersey, and Sure (Cable and Wireless) in Guernsey.

This has meant that the islands have had some of the highest telecommunications prices and the worse services in the British Isles.
