Brussels subscribers to the car-sharing firm Cambio increased by 44 per cent in the year just ended. Cambio, a private enterprise operating in partnership with the STIB public transport network, now has 3,905 members in the Belgian capital, while the number of car parks where customers can pick up or drop off a vehicle has risen to 134 from 21 in early 2007. High petrol prices during the spring of 2008 and the current economic downturn have been cited as reasons for the increased popularity of car-sharing.
