Amsterdam’s Grachtenfestival celebrates 15 years

Amsterdam’s Grachtenfestival of classical music is in full swing throughout the city. The main concert takes place on 18 August close to the Pulitzer Hotel, with floats on the Prinsengracht canal.

When it first began 15 years ago concerts were located in the central canal district but now they also take place in unusual venues across town.

The original three-day festival has been extended to ten days and includes some 230 events. However it still retains its original purpose of promoting young talented musicians, often giving them their first chance to perform before international audiences. The tickets are affordable and many of the concerts are free.

This year the festival is dedicated to the theme of love.
