Amsterdam port advised to merge with Rotterdam
The port of Amsterdam has been advised to either merge or work more closely with the port of Rotterdam, according to a study produced for the transport ministry says Dutch News online.
The increased competition between the two ports, including the development of a container terminal at Amsterdam even though Rotterdam is already one of the largest container ports in the world, was cited as a cause for concern and a waste of government funds. The report concluded that a single port was preferable to the existing situation.
