Istanbul’s iDans Festival travels the Silk Road

Istanbul hosts iDANS06 Festival until May 2013 to bring the mythical Silk Road alive through contemporary performing arts and exhibitions in public spaces.

This year’s festival, which started in 2007, presents a high-quality programme of dance, theatre, film screenings, photo exhibitions as well as talks, to give an artistic interpretation of the importance of the Silk Road and its trade in goods such as spices and paper.

Performed by international and many established artists, the shows are held in various places in town, such as Garajistanbul or the Haliç Congress Center.

The first festival in Turkey to receive a fund from the European Commission’s culture programme, the iDANS Festival 2012-2013 opens a vision of an ancient Asia and its contemporary art.
