1 March-2 Oct. The name of this exhibition refers to the realm of the Buddha and other deities portrayed in Chinese paintings since the Tang dynasty (AD 618-906).
The works on display were created by artists in the Sichuan province during China’s war with Japan in the 1940s. The Ashmolean shows rare examples of the artists’ depictions of deities in their paintings, textiles and ceramics.
