Velázquez, Painter to the King

Exhibition dedicated to the work of Spanish master Diego Velázquez (1599-1660).

A leading painter of Spain's Golden Age, Velázquez was court painter to King Philip IV and was famed for his portraits of royal figures from the House of Habsburg.

Due to the close ties between the Habsburg dynasties in Vienna and Madrid in the 17th century, there are a number of important Velázquez works in the collection of the Kunsthistorisches Museum.

There are numerous other paintings on loan from Madrid's Prado, London's National Gallery and Boston's Museum of Fine Arts in the exhibition whose highlights include the Rokeby Venus and the portrait of Don Carlos.

Tues-Sun 10.00-18.00. Thurs 10.00-21.00
