La Passion Selon Carol Rama

France's first retrospective dedicated to the mysterious Italian artist Carol Rama whose work is characterised by eroticism and sexual aggression, with particular reference to female sexuality.

Born in Turin in 1918, Rama's career stretches from 1936 to 2006, from her watercolours of the 1930s, her abstraction, informalism and spatialism between the 1950s and 1970s, until her return to the free use of form in later life.

The self-taught artist's stark use of intense colour and carnal subject matter have seen her unique, often macarbe, style labelled as "sensurrealism".

Rama, now aged 97, is regarded as having paved the way for other dynamic and controversial artists such as Cindy Sherman and Kiki Smith.

Tues-Sun 10.00-18.00. Thurs 10.00-18.00.
