Henri Matisse: Cut-Outs

Exhibition exploring the cut-out period of French artist Henri Matisse (1869-1954), the final chapter in the groundbreaking career of the Modernist pioneer.

By the time he was in his late 60s, Matisse was unable to paint due to ill health. Instead he began "carving into colour" by making designs for paintings using cut-out pieces of coloured paper, a process which ultimately became a medium in itself.

On display are 120 dynamic works created between 1936 and 1954, including The Snail and Memory of Oceania as well as the largest number of the artists Blue Nudes cut-out series ever exhibited together.

Sun-Thurs 10.00-18.00. Fri-Sat 10.00-22.00
