Erik van Lieshout: The Show Must Ego On

30 Sept-8 Jan. Erik van Lieshout is known for his provocative work which combines hard-hitting issues with humour.

The Rotterdam-based artist first came to prominence in the early 2000s for his visceral videos shot in specially-created environments in which he often plays a central role.

His subject matter relates to contemporary political and social issues in the Netherlands and Europe, including immigration, class, integration and gentrification.

Van Lieshout regularly uses satire to explore the failings of society as well as his own shortcomings, both as a human being and as an artist.

His show at WIELS features work made since 2009, including several video installations and works on paper.
