6 September - 29 December 2009. The Volksoper presents an operetta from Carl Zeller which has been a consistent crowd-pleaser since its premiere in 1891. The story centres around bird seller Adam and postal worker Christel as they attempt to unite against all the odds, which include a background of corruption and stealing, until they finally elope to the sanctuary of Tyrol. Addressing the issues of differing cultural and class backgrounds, this operetta in three acts is both a drama and a comedy.

The Volksoper regularly stages operettas as well as 18th, 19th and 20th century operas, classical musicals and ballet.
