Anselm Kiefer

16 Dec-18 April. The Centre Pompidou presents France's first retrospective in over 30 years dedicated to the leading German contemporary artist Anselm Kiefer.

One of Germany's first post-war artists to confront the Nazi legacy, Kiefer is best known for his work dealing with German myth and history, particularly in relation to the Holocaust. This exhibition comprises almost 150 works encompassing every facet of Kiefer's artistic career which began in the late 1960s.

On display across 13 gallery spaces are 60 large-scale paintings, works on paper and artist books, as well as a site-specific installation commissioned for the exhibition.

The artist set a new international record in 2011 when Christie's auction house sold his painting To the Unknown Painter (1983) for $3.6 million.
