A 32-year-old German woman is recovering in hospital after being mauled by a polar bear at Berlin Zoo. The woman was bitten on her arms and legs after jumping into an enclosure housing four adult polar bears.

A zoo spokesman said that keepers managed to push the bear away and pulled the woman free. The enclosure is surrounded is by a fence, hedges and a wall. No action will be taken against the polar bear.
