5 billion are to be spent over the next year on improvements to the London Underground network. Around 50 stations, including Baker Street, Earls Court, Embankment, Kings Cross and Blackfriars stations will be affected by the works. As of 1 April the Northern Line will be closed on weekends throughout 2006 and the Waterloo and City line will be completely closed for five months. Regents Park station on the Bakerloo line will be closed for a year from July 2006. London Underground has promised that alternative travel options will be provided. Transport for London has set up a website for passengers to consult before they travel.
