Following years of campaigning by a local Oxford group, a three-acre area of scrubland, grassland and woodland known as the Trap Grounds in North Oxford looks set to be registered by the county council as a town green. The long-running legal battle between Friends of the Trap Grounds and the Oxford city council, which was planning to build low-cost housing on the site, culminated in the House of Lords judgement in favour of the Friends in May of this year. Now the county councillors on the planning and regulations board are about to ratify the ruling, which means the Trap Grounds will be preserved as a local nature reserve.
