Jersey could once again have a railway running from the west of the island to the town of St Helier.

Representatives of a leading transport company in the UK have visited the island to talk to politicians about the feasibility of creating a light railway or train system.

The visit comes after at the instigation of Deputy Paul Le Claire, who said he had always thought there was room for a light railway or tram system in the island.

The deputy said there was also a possibility that the east of the island could get a bus service that used parts of the former eastern railway line to avoid queues of traffic.
