This year the summer transformation of part of the Seine into a beach includes the Left Bank, with a kilometre of sand, parasols and palm trees lining the river from the floating swimming pool at Port de la Gare to the new Simone de Beauvoir pedestrian bridge. Open from 20 July to 20 August, the Paris Plage also stretches for three kilometres along the Right Bank in front of the Hotel de la Ville. Sports activities including beach volley ball, jogging, Frisbee competitions, badminton, sand-ball, Tai-Chi and beach rugby are on offer, plus special activities for children. This year the Paris Plage theme is dedicated to French Polynesia. The FnacIndtendances music festival provides free concerts every Friday and Saturday under the Pont du Sully during the Paris Plage month. For full details see the Paris city council website.
