New rules for Dublin buskers

Dublin buskers restricted from using amplifiers and pre-recorded music.

Dublin City Council has introduced new bylaws banning the capital's buskers from playing backing tracks and pre-recorded music, as well as curbing the use of amplifiers and restricting performances by dance groups.

The new restrictions will be enforced particularly in the city's Temple Bar cultural quarter, where amplifiers have been completely banned, while buskers now need a permit to use amplifiers along the premier shopping thoroughfare Grafton Street and other key locations in the capital.

Buskers will have to purchase the permits, costing €60 per year or €20 for a two-week visitor permit, directly from Dublin City Council.

In addition, buskers are required to move elsewhere after two hours performing in the one place, or one hour in the case of Grafton Street.
