Bus Eireann has presented the government with a plan to run regular commuter buses every 12 minutes throughout the day along major commuter routes in the Greater Dublin Area (GDA). Beneficiaries would include residents of the rapidly developing towns of Meath, Louth, Wicklow and Kildare. Other proposals include a 24-hour corridor linking the capital with Dublin airport, Balbriggan and Drogheda, a direct bus link between the city centre and Navan, Newbridge, Mullingar, Wicklow and Dublin airport, to operate on a "dawn-till-dusk" basis, and direct connections between Dublin airport and the main commuter towns in Leinster. A Bus Eirann spokesperson Erica Roseingrave said that with longer and diversified working hours, the demand for bus transport at all hours is booming. Funding for the commuter bus project, which would require the acquisition of 366 fully accessible vehicles, is to come from the Transport 21 scheme.
