Hautlieu College will become the first school in the Channel Islands to offer the International Baccalaureate diploma as an alternative to A Level exams.

The school has now received confirmation that its application for IBO World School status, enabling it to deliver the programme from September 2009.

Head teacher Lesley Toms said it was a very exciting development for learners across the island.

To enable Hautlieu to offer this programme, there will be sponsorship from the UBS bank.

As part of the qualification, students will study six subjects and develop a wide range of learning skills. They will also undertake personal research, develop creative and activity skills and support community events.
