Frank Gehry's Louis Vuitton museum opens

The new museum designed by Frank Gehry for the Fondation Louis Vuitton art collection opened in Paris on Monday 27 Oct.

The inauguration comes just a few days after the reopening of the Picasso Museum after a major renovation which has taken five years and cost €52 million. It is the world's largest collection of Picasso works.

The Gehry designed museum will hold the public collection of the Fondation Louis Vuitton luxury-goods giant LVMH as well as the Vuitton private collection. The museum in the Bois de Bologne (Les Sablons is the best metro stop) has been under construction since 2008 and cost over €100 million. It has been built on public land and will be given to the city at the end of the 55-year lease. The museum will also host temporary exhibitions and other events.

Gehry, whose other major museum in Europe is the Guggenheim in Bilbao, is also the subject of an exhibition at the Centre Georges Pompidou until January 2015.
