The number of people working in Jersey is the highest for nearly a decade.

The total of employed people in Jersey now stands at 55,000, a rise of 1,200 in the 12 months to last June.

The finance sector continues to be the driver of the economy, and is responsible over the same 12 months for employing nearly 500 more people. This is an increase of 4 per cent at the end of June 2007 compared with 12 months earlier. In the latest manpower survey from the States statistics unit, the number of jobs in finance was the highest ever recorded at 12,540.

The public sector workforce also rose by 200 people
