Währing, Viennas 18th district, lies north-west of the city centre (Innere Stadt) sandwiched between Döbling, Hernals and Alsergrund. In the 19th century new factories sprouted up among the numerous villas, attracting a steady flow of industrial workers to the district. Währing abounds in green spots like the Trkenschanzpark, Schubertpark and many other gardens and small parks. Considerable numbers of Austria's great and good, from the theatre, music, politics and business live here alongside a host of foreign embassies and official residences too. Subsequently, prices in Währing are among the highest in Vienna. The district has many fine Heurigen restaurants and ample opportunities for relaxing walks in the woods. If you want to live in a quite, leafy, affluent suburb of Vienna and have the money to do so, Währing is the place for you. The U6 underground line and S45 pass through Währing, and there are a number of bus routes to choose from.
