The village of Sloten is 200 years older than Amsterdam, but has now been assimilated by the city.

Little is left of the old village, and the Slotervaart quarter is dominated by high apartment blocks, built in the 1930s and 1940s. Recreational options are limited, with the yachting harbour and an indoor cycling course being the best the quarter has to offer.
